The “Gas Station Gold” Scam

***NEVER BUY JEWELLERY OFF SOMEONE ON THE STREET***

This scam doesn’t just happen at gas stations, however that is the most common place we hear about people being targeted. It can happen anywhere there is a large amount of foot traffic. Commonly this scam starts by a man or a family approaching you to ask for gas money and offering you a piece of “gold” jewellery such as a thick chain or large heavy ring. The rings especially carry large designer logos on them. While the jewellery may look enticing and even has an 18k stamp, it is not real gold and is not worth the money they are asking for it. It is a good thing to note that just because there is a karat stamp, that doesn’t mean it is actually gold.
